From our Moorpark coverage — newest first
If you were hurt in a crash in Moorpark, get medical care today, get the Moorpark Police (Ventura County Sheriff) or CHP report number, and talk to a lawyer before you give the other driver’s insurer a statement or accept an offer. Beverly Law’s personal injury attorneys handle car, truck, motorcycle and pedestrian cases for Moorpark and Ventura County residents — the report, the medical care, the vehicle and every call from the insurance company — in English or Spanish.
Moorpark’s streets are quieter than Los Angeles’, but the roads around it are not: SR-118 carries commuters and trucks between Simi Valley and the 23 at freeway speed, Los Angeles Avenue runs that same traffic through the middle of town, and canyon roads like Grimes Canyon and arterials like Tierra Rejada are where the serious crashes in our own Ventura County coverage happened. Beverly Law’s office is at 4929 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 960, Los Angeles, CA 90010, about 45 miles from Moorpark via the 118 and the 405. We represent Moorpark and Ventura County clients by phone, video and WhatsApp, and we meet in person in Ventura County by appointment; most clients never need to drive to Los Angeles. Call 1 (877) 427-2752 (24/7) or message us on WhatsApp in English or Spanish.

Freeway-speed traffic through a small city, two-lane canyon roads and a long commute.
Most serious Moorpark crashes happen on four roads. SR-118 (the Ronald Reagan Freeway) carries Simi Valley and San Fernando Valley commuters plus truck traffic, and becomes Los Angeles Avenue — a surface street with signals, driveways and left turns — as it passes through town. SR-23 (the Moorpark Freeway) connects to the 101 in Thousand Oaks and backs up at the 118 interchange every evening. Grimes Canyon Road and Broadway Road north of the city are two-lane roads with blind curves where head-on crashes happen, and Tierra Rejada Road and Moorpark Avenue carry the local traffic to schools, Moorpark College and the Metrolink station.
Moorpark is a small city, and its numbers are small: the California Office of Traffic Safety counted 82 people killed or injured in Moorpark crashes in 2023, ranking it 69th of 93 California cities of similar size, where 1st is the worst. Its one weak spot is speed — 18 speed-related injury crashes put it 34th of 93, in the worse half of the group — along with 6 motorcyclist victims and 81 DUI arrests in the year (OTS Crash Rankings, 2023). The serious crashes around Moorpark tend to happen on the fast roads at its edges: SR-118, SR-23, Grimes Canyon Road and Los Angeles Avenue.
The most serious injuries go to Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura or Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks — both Level II trauma centers about 20 to 30 minutes from Moorpark. If a lawsuit is needed it is filed in the Ventura County Superior Court, Hall of Justice, 800 South Victoria Avenue, Ventura, CA 93009.
Moorpark contracts its policing to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office (Moorpark Police Department), which writes the report for crashes on city streets. On SR-118, SR-23 and the unincorporated roads around the city — Grimes Canyon Road, Broadway Road, the stretch of Los Angeles Avenue outside city limits — the report comes from the CHP Moorpark Area office. We pull the report for our clients at no cost.
Speed on the 118 and Los Angeles Avenue, unsafe passing and drifting over the center line on Grimes Canyon and Broadway, left turns across traffic at the signals on Tierra Rejada and Spring Road, and alcohol — the Moorpark crash in our coverage involved a suspected DUI driver. Agricultural and delivery trucks share the 118 corridor, and a crash with one brings federal trucking rules into the case. If a Caltrans road condition, a county road or a city vehicle contributed, a government claim is due within six months.
The first three days shape your entire claim. This is the order that matters.

Rear-end, intersection T-bones, freeway pile-ups and left-turn crashes.
18-wheelers, big rigs and delivery trucks — several companies may share liability.
Unsafe lane changes and left-turn crashes that riders pay for in road rash and fractures.
Crosswalks, bus stops and streets with no sidewalk — often hit-and-run.
Which policy applies depends on what the driver’s app was doing at that moment.
Hit-and-run is common in California. You may still recover through your uninsured-motorist coverage.
Premises liability against property owners, landlords and businesses.
Two years from the date of death to file. We handle the claim so the family doesn’t have to.
Miss the deadline and the claim is gone, no matter how strong it was.
Deadlines can be shorter or longer depending on the facts. Talk to a lawyer before assuming yours has passed.
Everyone is responsible for injuries caused to others by their want of ordinary care or skill. In a Moorpark crash, liability may be shared among drivers, employers, or public agencies.
You generally have two years from the date of injury to file a personal injury lawsuit in California. Claims against public entities must be presented within six months.
California is not a no-fault state. Juries assign a percentage of fault to everyone involved and reduce damages by that percentage — with no cutoff. Even if you are found 90% at fault, you still recover 10% of your damages. If your damages are $100,000 and you are 30% at fault, you recover $70,000.
If the City of Moorpark, Ventura County, Caltrans (which owns the 118 and the 23), VCTC or another public entity is responsible — a county vehicle, a missing guardrail, a dangerous road design — a written government claim must be presented within six months of the crash, before any lawsuit. Missing it usually ends the case.
Since January 1, 2025 the minimum policy is $30,000 per person / $60,000 per accident / $15,000 property damage. When the at-fault driver has only that, no insurance or fled, your own uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage pays — and it covers hit-and-run when the crash is reported to police within 24 hours.
Drunk driving, handheld phone use and leaving the scene are each negligence per se. When the driver was drunk, punitive damages are available under Taylor v. Superior Court (1979) 24 Cal.3d 890, which the driver pays personally. Hit-and-run is a felony under § 20001; for the victim it is usually an uninsured-motorist claim.
This summary is general information, not legal advice. Every case depends on its specific facts.
Emergency care, surgery, therapy, future treatment, lost wages, lost earning capacity, property damage and out-of-pocket costs. Not capped in California.
Pain, suffering, disfigurement, loss of normal life and loss of consortium. Capped only in medical malpractice cases.
The variables that move the number most: how serious and how permanent the injury is, whether you treated consistently, how clear fault is, and — very often the real ceiling — how much insurance is actually available.
One in three US drivers is uninsured or underinsured. California’s minimums rose on January 1, 2025 to $30,000 / $60,000 / $15,000 — the first increase since 1967, and still nowhere near a hospital stay. Your own UM/UIM coverage often becomes the real source of recovery, and it usually covers hit-and-run too.
Nothing up front. No attorney fee unless we win. Whether case costs are deducted from a recovery is explained in your written fee agreement. Beverly Law works on contingency: the fee is a percentage of the recovery, agreed in writing before we start.
A Moorpark injury lawsuit is filed in the Ventura County Superior Court. Civil cases for the whole county are heard at the Hall of Justice, 800 South Victoria Avenue, Ventura, CA 93009, in the county government center about 25 miles west of Moorpark on the 118 and the 126. Ventura County has its own local rules and a civil calendar that is smaller and faster-moving than Los Angeles County’s; judges here expect a case to be worked up before it is filed.
Most Moorpark claims settle with the insurer before a lawsuit is ever filed. When one is needed, we file it, handle every hearing and prepare you for your deposition. Visit the Ventura County Superior Court website for courthouse information.
The highways and roads where Moorpark injury crashes cluster.
We represent injured people throughout Moorpark and the surrounding Ventura County communities: Downtown and High Street, Campus Park, Mountain Meadows, Peach Hill, Varsity Park, and neighbors in Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, Camarillo, Fillmore and Santa Paula.

What happens after you call, and what it costs.
The first offer arrives before anyone knows how badly you are hurt, and signing it ends the claim. Our team includes former insurance adjusters who know exactly how carriers value Ventura County claims. We take every call from the insurance company; you do not give a recorded statement.
A claim with clear fault and finished treatment can settle in three to six months. Serious injuries, disputed fault or several insurers take longer, and a case filed in Ventura County Superior Court commonly takes one to two years — though most still settle before trial. We do not rush a settlement before your doctors know whether you will need future care.

Results shown on our About page include a $2,500,000 settlement after an initial offer of $100,000, and Lyft and Uber accident settlements after initial offers of $60,000 and $30,000. Results vary. Past results do not guarantee a similar outcome.
