An 83-year-old man from Sacramento died Sunday afternoon after the 1934 Ford he was driving crashed on Greenstone Road in a rural, hilly stretch of El Dorado County. The California Highway Patrol said the vintage vehicle was headed northbound just north of Quail Valley Road when, for reasons still under investigation, it left the roadway around 4:58 p.m. The Ford reportedly rolled and traveled roughly 20 feet down an embankment before coming to rest with its front end torn off. First responders faced an extended arrival time because of the remote location, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
FOX40 Sacramento reported that CHP officers documented the wreck and that the cause of the crash remains under investigation. According to Red, White and Blue Press, the driver was trapped inside the vehicle and rescuers performed CPR before he was pronounced dead. No other vehicles or people were reported involved in the crash. Authorities have not released the man’s name, and it is unclear whether mechanical issues with the decades-old vehicle contributed to the crash. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
