Woman Killed in Fiery Head-On Crash on Highway 108 Near Oakdale
A woman died Thursday night after a fiery head-on crash on Highway 108 east of Oakdale in Stanislaus County. According to the California Highway Patrol, the woman was driving a Honda sedan westbound on Highway 108 when she crossed the double yellow lines into the path of an oncoming Ford pickup truck. The two vehicles collided head-on, and the Honda immediately caught fire. The woman was unable to escape the burning car and died at the scene, while the pickup’s driver, a Jamestown resident, was hospitalized with minor injuries.
According to CBS Sacramento, CHP’s preliminary investigation found the Honda had been attempting to pass another vehicle when it crossed into oncoming traffic, and investigators are still working to determine whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. Highway 108 was shut down between Lancaster Road and Kennedy Road for several hours as CHP officers and fire crews worked the scene. The victim’s identity had not been released as of Friday morning. The crash remains under active investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
