A 73-year-old Manteca woman died after a hit-and-run driver struck her while she was crossing West Lathrop Road near Fifth Street early Friday morning, September 18, 2026. Investigators believe she had just left Calvary Church and was walking home when she was hit outside of a marked crosswalk. Firefighters were already administering emergency care when officers arrived, and she was rushed to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries. The driver reportedly stopped briefly before speeding away, and no vehicle description or suspect has been identified.
According to CBS Sacramento, police were called to the scene around 5:49 a.m. after witnesses reported that a pedestrian had been hit and the driver had fled. The outlet reported that the Manteca Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is handling the case and had not released a vehicle or suspect description. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash, or who was in the area at the time, to call the department at 209-456-8101 and reference case number 26-04476. No road closures were reported in connection with the investigation.
