An 83-year-old Sacramento man died Sunday afternoon after the 1934 Ford he was driving left Greenstone Road, struck a tree and rolled roughly 20 feet down an embankment in a rural, hilly stretch of El Dorado County near Diamond Springs. The crash happened around 4:58 p.m. just north of Quail Valley Road, according to California Highway Patrol dispatch records. The vintage vehicle’s front end was torn off in the impact, and the driver was trapped inside as emergency crews arrived and began CPR. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No other occupants were in the car at the time of the crash.
KCRA reported that the driver was behind the wheel of the antique Ford when it left the roadway for reasons that remain under investigation before rolling over. The outlet noted that the California Highway Patrol had not released the driver’s identity as of the initial report. Other outlets covering the crash, including Fox40, similarly reported that no other vehicles or occupants were involved and that the cause — whether mechanical failure, road conditions or driver error — has not been determined. CHP says the investigation into the crash remains active.
