A 21-year-old man died early Saturday morning after his car left Clarksburg Road and struck a utility pole in rural Yolo County, south of Sacramento. The California Highway Patrol responded to the crash around 7:25 a.m. after receiving reports of a single-vehicle collision west of Jefferson Boulevard. Investigators say the driver, who was alone in an Acura sedan, was traveling westbound when the vehicle left the roadway and hit the pole. He was pronounced dead at the scene. CHP officials believe alcohol and/or drugs may have contributed to the crash, though toxicology results were still pending.
FOX40 Sacramento reported that CHP officers arrived at the scene shortly after 7:25 a.m. Saturday and found that the Acura had left the roadway and struck a pole along Clarksburg Road. According to the outlet, the man was the sole occupant of the vehicle and died from his injuries. CBS Sacramento separately confirmed that no other vehicles were involved and that the CHP suspects impairment played a role in the crash. As of the following Monday, authorities had not publicly released the driver’s name pending notification of next of kin.

Suspected DUI driver dies after crashing into pole on Clarksburg Road
California Vehicle Code Section 23152 makes it illegal to drive a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or a combination of the two, or with a blood alcohol content of 0.08% or higher. California Highway Patrol officials say alcohol and/or drugs are believed to have contributed to the Clarksburg Road crash, though toxicology results remained pending. Violations of this statute can also support civil liability when impaired driving causes a crash that injures or kills another person.
Vehicle Code Section 23153 elevates a DUI to a more serious offense when impaired driving causes bodily injury to another person, and it can factor into civil claims brought by surviving family members or other victims. While early reports indicate the driver was the only occupant of the vehicle, single-vehicle DUI crashes frequently involve pedestrians, passengers, or other motorists, and California law allows injured victims or their families to pursue compensation for medical expenses, lost income, and wrongful death.
