A driver died early Wednesday morning after a solo-vehicle crash on Sycamore Road west of Arvin, California, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash was reported around 12:42 a.m. at the intersection of Sycamore Road and South Edison Road in Kern County. CHP said a man was driving a 2007 Scion tC westbound on Sycamore Road at an unknown high rate of speed when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway. The car then overturned in a dirt field, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. It is not yet known whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
According to KBAK, California Highway Patrol has not released the identity of the driver, and it remains unclear whether speed, alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash. KGET 17 News reported that the vehicle came to rest in a dirt field just west of South Edison Road after leaving the roadway.
