Person freed from vehicle after Sacramento County crash, officials say
California Vehicle Code Section 21800 governs right-of-way at intersections that are not controlled by signals or officers, generally requiring the driver on the left to yield to the vehicle approaching from the right. Two-vehicle collisions like this one often turn on which driver had the right-of-way and whether either driver failed to yield. Investigators and insurance adjusters typically look at witness statements, vehicle damage, and any available video to determine fault under this statute.
California’s Basic Speed Law, Vehicle Code Section 22350, prohibits driving at a speed greater than is reasonable or prudent for the conditions, regardless of the posted limit. Because officials have not said what caused this collision, speed for conditions at the intersection could become a factor investigators examine. A driver who was traveling too fast for traffic or visibility at the time can be found at fault even if under the posted speed limit.
