A pedestrian died in Long Beach Saturday night after being struck by a hit-and-run driver and then hit by a Metro light-rail train, according to police. The Long Beach Police Department says the collision happened around 8:52 p.m. on September 5, 2026, near Long Beach Boulevard and East 23rd Street in the city’s Wrigley District. An unknown vehicle traveling southbound on Long Beach Boulevard allegedly struck the man in the roadway before fleeing the scene. He was then struck by a Metro train on the tracks and was pronounced dead where he lay. His identity had not been released as of the latest reports.
According to KTLA, the Long Beach Police Department has not released a description of the vehicle involved and is asking anyone with information to come forward. NBC Los Angeles reported that investigators had not yet determined whether speed, distraction or impairment contributed to the initial collision. The driver who allegedly struck the man and fled has not been identified or apprehended. Long Beach police urged witnesses to call the department’s investigators at 562-570-7110 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
