A big rig overturned across the center divider of the 210 Freeway in Claremont early Monday morning, spilling dozens of gallons of diesel fuel across both directions of the freeway. The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol around 12:44 a.m. near Baseline Road, prompting a SigAlert that shut down carpool lanes in both directions along with two eastbound lanes. The truck’s driver was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries. A sedan was also found overturned near the scene, though its connection to the crash was not immediately clear.
According to KTLA, CHP officials said the lane closures would remain in place until further notice as crews worked to clear the diesel spill from the roadway. The outlet reported that the tractor came to rest on the westbound side, leaking fuel into the HOV lane, with some of it seeping beneath the center divider onto the eastbound lanes. As of the latest update, authorities had not released the cause of the crash or the driver’s condition, and the investigation remains active.
