A late-night crash on the westbound 118 Freeway in Pacoima left one person dead and three others hospitalized over the weekend. According to authorities, a sedan veered off the roadway near the San Fernando Road off-ramp, went down a shoulder embankment, and struck a tree. One occupant was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver and two other occupants were taken to area hospitals with injuries ranging from fair to serious. The California Highway Patrol shut down the off-ramp and several freeway lanes for hours while investigators worked the scene.
KTLA reported that the crash was called in to the CHP at 8:18 p.m. Saturday, and that the vehicle involved was a sedan that left the roadway before crashing into a tree on the shoulder embankment. Per KTLA, one person was pronounced dead at the scene, one occupant was hospitalized in serious condition, and two others were hospitalized in fair condition. The outlet noted that the person who died did not appear to be the driver, and that a CHP officer said the driver was conscious when evaluated by paramedics.
