A 30-year-old woman was killed early Friday, August 28, 2026, when a silver Mercedes SUV and a black Toyota collided near Eighth Street and Ardmore Avenue in the Koreatown neighborhood of Los Angeles. The crash, reported around 12:35 a.m., also damaged three parked cars, a utility box, and a power pole, and sheared a fire hydrant that sent water spraying into the air. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the other vehicle, a woman in her 30s, was taken to California Hospital Medical Center with injuries. Police arrested her on suspicion of driving under the influence after she was released from the hospital. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
According to FOX 11 Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Police Department said officers were initially called to the intersection over a report of a vehicle striking a fire hydrant before finding the two-car collision. CBS News Los Angeles reported that LAPD investigators said the suspected DUI driver had allegedly been seen speeding in the area before the crash. Authorities have not released the identity of the woman who died, pending notification of her family and confirmation by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. Investigators have not said what ultimately caused the two vehicles to collide or how fast either was traveling, and LAPD said the incident is not being investigated as a hit-and-run.
