A man riding an electric scooter was seriously injured late Friday night, August 28, 2026, when he was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Redondo Beach Boulevard and Vermont Avenue outside the Hustler Casino in Gardena, California. Emergency crews found the scooter rider lying in the roadway, unconscious but breathing, shortly after the crash was reported around 10 p.m. Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics rushed him to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene and was not injured.
According to CBS News Los Angeles, the Gardena Police Department is investigating the crash and had not determined what caused the collision as of the initial report. The outlet noted that the scooter rider’s identity had not been released. Gardena police asked anyone with information to contact Traffic Bureau Investigator J. Zamudio or Sergeant V. Comez. E-scooter riders like the man hurt in this crash have little protection in a collision with a car, and often suffer serious head and body trauma as a result.
