A 45-year-old man was struck and killed by a driver who left the scene in the Historic South-Central neighborhood of Los Angeles early Tuesday, according to a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson quoted by KTLA. Officers responded to reports of a crash at San Pedro Street and East 20th Street shortly before 3 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, and found a pedestrian unresponsive in the roadway; the man was pronounced dead at the scene, KTLA reported.
MyNewsLA, also citing an LAPD spokesperson, reported that the man was struck at about 2:51 a.m. at East 20th and San Pedro streets by a vehicle of unknown description, and that no information about a suspect or suspects was immediately available. KTLA reported that no description of the vehicle or the driver had been released, that video from the scene showed a canopy set up near the sidewalk as investigators worked, and that San Pedro Street was closed between Washington Boulevard and 21st Street during the investigation.
