UPDATE — October 25, 2026

On the morning of Thursday, October 22, 2026, a work bus carrying farmworkers and a semitruck collided on State Route 24 at its junction with Road 24 Southwest in Grant County, Washington. At least 11 people were reported injured, with injuries ranging in severity, and no deaths were reported. The injured were taken to hospitals in the Tri-Cities area. The full extent of the injuries was not known as of the first reports.

The Seattle Times reported that, according to the Washington State Patrol, the bus was turning onto Highway 24 from Road 24 Southwest and allegedly failed to yield the right of way before the semitruck struck it. Local outlet KPQ reported that troopers said charges were pending against the bus driver and that intoxicants were not a factor, and it put the number of injured bus passengers at 12. Highway 24 was closed at the junction while crews worked the scene. Reports differ on some details, and the investigation is ongoing.

Eleven people were injured on Thursday, October 22, 2026, when a bus and a large truck collided on State Route 24 in Grant County, Washington, near Mattawa. The Washington State Patrol described the crash as a critical incident and said all 11 people were taken to local hospitals. The severity of their injuries had not been released in the early reports. Crashes involving commercial trucks and passenger buses can cause serious harm because of the size and weight of the vehicles involved.

According to KIRO 7 News Seattle, the Washington State Patrol said on X that 11 people were hurt after a work bus and a semi crashed into each other on SR 24, near milepost 53, and that the road was fully blocked while troopers investigated. KPQ News reported that the crash allegedly involved a tanker truck and a minibus carrying farm workers, that the State Patrol said the minibus driver allegedly ran a stop sign at the junction with Road 24 Southwest, and that charges were pending. KPQ also reported a count of 12 injured passengers in its later update, so the final number of people hurt may differ between sources. Details are based on early reports and may change as the investigation continues.

What the Law Says

Under Washington’s rules of the road, a driver approaching a stop sign must stop and yield the right-of-way to traffic in or approaching the intersection. A driver who allegedly fails to do so may be found negligent in a resulting collision.

Washington follows a pure comparative fault system, which means an injured person’s recovery is reduced by their share of fault, if any, rather than barred. Fault in multi-vehicle commercial crashes is often contested, so evidence gathered early can matter.
