A 26-year-old Wills Point man died early Saturday, September 20, 2026, after losing control of his SUV on a Hunt County road and crashing into a tree. The Texas Department of Public Safety says the driver, identified as Corey Shane Tacker, was heading south on County Road 3609 at an unsafe speed when the vehicle left the roadway. Tacker died at the scene. DPS says the investigation remains active and no further details have been released.
According to KLTV, troopers responded to the crash around 12:05 a.m. after Tacker’s 2017 Ford Expedition left County Road 3609 and struck a tree. The outlet reported that no other vehicles or people were involved and that the cause remains under investigation by DPS. Fatal single-vehicle crashes like this one are often linked to excessive speed on rural roads, which can leave a driver little time to react to a curve or soft shoulder.
