A 16-year-old Spring High School student was left in critical condition Friday afternoon, September 18, 2026, after being struck by a pickup truck while attempting to cross Interstate 45 North Freeway near Louetta Road in Spring, Texas. The teen and a second 16-year-old reportedly ran across the freeway’s main lanes after being at a nearby Home Depot, and one made it safely across while the other was hit trying to cross the HOV lane. Emergency crews rushed the injured student to HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is investigating, and multiple lanes were shut down in the area as crews worked the scene.
According to KPRC 2/Click2Houston, the driver of the pickup remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, and Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the two teens had “successfully made it across the main lanes” before one was struck in the HOV lane. ABC13 Houston reported that HCSO confirmed both teens attend Spring High School but could not immediately confirm whether they were supposed to be in school at the time of the crash, and that the driver reportedly attempted to slow down before impact. No charges had been filed as of the latest reporting, and the investigation remains active.
