A fatal single-vehicle rollover crash happened around 10 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, at U.S. Highway 84 and Farm-to-Market Road 1606 in Scurry County, Texas. According to a preliminary report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the driver was heading north at a high rate of speed in the passing lane when he lost control, left the roadway and overturned. The driver was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene.
KSAT reported that DPS identified the driver as Bakari James DiAngelo Brown, 18, a Stevens High School graduate and 2025-2026 boys basketball co-captain in San Antonio. Other local outlets, including Fox 34, also reported that he was not wearing a seat belt. The reports we reviewed did not mention other vehicles or other injured people, and they did not describe any road closures. Crashes like this one are a reminder that speed and loss of control can change a family’s life in seconds.
