A 65-year-old Edinburg man died in a rollover crash on U.S. 281 about six miles north of Premont in Jim Wells County on Friday, October 23, 2026, at around 3 p.m., according to reports citing the Texas Department of Public Safety. A passenger in the same pickup was flown by air ambulance to a Corpus Christi hospital. The crash allegedly began when a tire on the southbound truck blew out while it was towing a trailer carrying a tractor.
KRGV reported that the 1999 Ford F-250 struck a 2025 Toyota Tacoma and pushed it into the center median, then rolled over and came to rest in the inside lane. The trailer reportedly came loose, rolled over the guardrail and landed in the median. KRGV said the other passenger and the 42-year-old Tacoma driver were not hurt, and that troopers from the Alice Highway Patrol Office are still investigating. KIII-TV also covered the crash.
