What the Law Says

Texas Transportation Code 550.021 requires the driver of a vehicle involved in a crash that results or is reasonably likely to result in injury or death to stop immediately at the scene, or as close as possible, and remain there. The driver must also provide information and render reasonable aid. Leaving the scene can carry serious criminal consequences.

Under Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code Chapter 71, certain family members may bring a wrongful death claim when a person dies because of another’s wrongful act or neglect. Deadlines apply, so families should seek advice promptly.
