A driver was seriously injured late Saturday night, October 3, 2026, when his car crashed into a large oak tree and rolled over in the 9200 block of Richmond Avenue in west Houston. Officers had been called to the intersection of Fondren Road and Richmond Avenue around 11:30 p.m. for a disabled vehicle blocking traffic. Police say they found the driver asleep and that he allegedly resisted and scuffled with them. The driver was the only person in the vehicle and no officers were hurt.
According to FOX 26 Houston, officers shut off the car’s push-button ignition, but the driver allegedly restarted it, put it in gear and drove away. After traveling several hundred feet, the vehicle struck the tree, flipped and rolled before stopping. KPRC Click2Houston reports the man was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in serious condition. Investigators are looking at speed, possible alcohol involvement and whether officers were still holding the door when the car left, and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office is expected to review possible DWI charges.
