A rollover crash in north Houston left one person dead and three others injured early Monday, after a vehicle fled from Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies. Investigators say the pursuit began when deputies responded to a report of a parking lot takeover near Veterans Memorial Drive and FM 1960, where a car was allegedly doing donuts while people rode on its doors. When deputies tried to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly sped off with the headlights turned off, eventually losing control on Ella Boulevard. The car reportedly struck a median curb, rolled several times, and came to rest upright, ejecting at least one occupant. Investigators say the vehicle was carrying as many as five people, and that a firearm was recovered at the scene.
According to ABC13 Houston, Harris County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Aric Albers said the driver had turned off the vehicle’s headlights and likely never saw the median curb before losing control. ABC13 reports the driver, a 24-year-old man, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene, while three teenagers — two 17-year-old girls and an 18-year-old boy — were taken to local hospitals and later released. Click2Houston (KPRC) reported that a fifth occupant, a teenage girl, fled the scene on foot and that deputies searched for her using a helicopter and K-9 units. Both outlets confirmed that investigators recovered a firearm from the vehicle and were still working to determine who was driving at the time of the crash.
