A 20-year-old Texas Southern University student was struck and killed while crossing Westheimer Road in west Houston late Saturday night, September 5, 2026. Monae Pinkney was walking with a group of friends toward a nearby club in the 12900 block of Westheimer Road when she stepped into the roadway outside a marked crosswalk and was hit by a westbound vehicle, according to police. She was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported in the crash.
Houston police said a blue BMW X3 was traveling westbound on Westheimer Road when it struck Pinkney as she tried to cross, Click2Houston reported. The driver stayed at the scene, cooperated with investigators, and showed no immediate signs of intoxication, according to the outlet. A crowd gathered at the scene afterward, and officers worked to keep the peace while HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division continued its investigation. Texas Southern University confirmed Pinkney was one of its students, KHOU reported, and the university community has been mourning her loss.
