A 20-year-old pedestrian was killed late Thursday night after being struck by a vehicle on the U.S. Highway 83/277 frontage road about five miles north of Hawley in Jones County, Texas. The victim, identified as Alexis Ivan Jimenez of Rio Grande City, was walking in the roadway when he was hit by a southbound 2013 Cadillac driven by a 16-year-old girl from Hawley. Jimenez was rushed to Anson General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just after 1 a.m. Friday by Jones County Justice of the Peace Cheryl Guernsey. The teenage driver was wearing her seat belt and was not injured in the crash.
According to KTXS-TV, the Texas Department of Public Safety said the crash happened around 10:56 p.m. Thursday, with clear weather and a dry road surface at the time. San Angelo LIVE reported that the posted speed limit on the frontage road is 55 mph and that no other vehicles were involved in the collision. DPS said the crash remains under active investigation, and no citations or charges have been announced. Authorities have not said whether Jimenez was wearing reflective clothing or why he was walking in the roadway at that hour.
