An 18-year-old driver is facing a manslaughter charge after a crash that killed another driver in Grand Prairie, Texas, over the weekend. Police say Ernesto Esqueda, of Dallas, was driving eastbound on East Jefferson Street shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday when his car struck a Ford SUV that was turning from westbound Jefferson Street onto Southeast 2nd Street. The SUV driver, the vehicle’s only occupant, was taken to a hospital, where he later died; his identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Esqueda was also taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries before he was arrested and charged.
According to WFAA, investigators reviewed surveillance video from nearby businesses and determined that Esqueda had allegedly been driving at a high rate of speed before the crash in the 300 block of East Jefferson Street. The outlet reported that Grand Prairie police continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision. No additional details about road closures following the crash have been released. The case remains under investigation as authorities work to confirm the identity of the man who died.
