A crash involving a big rig on northbound Interstate 45 (the North Freeway) at State Highway 242 near The Woodlands left one person dead on Wednesday afternoon, October 7, 2026. The Conroe Police Department confirmed the death. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity or how the person died.
ABC13 Houston reported that, according to Houston TranStar, the crash shut down the right shoulder and three northbound lanes of I-45 during the afternoon commute, and traffic backed up. TranStar later reported the scene was cleared. FOX 26 Houston separately reported that authorities were on scene of a crash involving a pedestrian and an 18-wheeler at the same location, though it did not confirm injuries; it has not been confirmed that the two reports describe the same crash. The cause remains under investigation.
