Two people died and another was hurt in a multi-vehicle crash on the East Freeway (I-10) at Monmouth Drive in the Channelview area of Harris County on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. Preliminary information indicates a red Ford Explorer allegedly struck the rear of a white Jeep Wrangler while both were traveling eastbound. The Explorer then went down an embankment. The driver of the Jeep suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.

According to ABC13 Houston, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said initial information shows the Explorer was being driven recklessly, and that the Explorer’s male driver and its passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. ABC13 reports their identities had not been released and that all eastbound lanes were shut down, with one lane reopening at 4 p.m. and all lanes open by 6 p.m. KPRC Click2Houston reports that authorities saw no initial signs of impairment and that the investigation is ongoing. What the Law Says

Texas Transportation Code Section 545.062 requires a driver to keep enough distance behind the vehicle ahead to stop safely without a collision. Rear-end impacts are often examined under this rule, along with the speed and attention of the driver who followed.

Texas Transportation Code Section 545.401 defines reckless driving as driving with willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property. Separately, the Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code, Chapter 71, governs wrongful death claims, and Chapter 33 applies proportionate responsibility to injury cases. Anyone hurt in a crash may have legal options, and we work on a no fee unless we win basis.
