A 21-year-old Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office detention officer, Anon Vaughn Hoffman, was killed Saturday afternoon when his motorcycle collided with an SUV at the intersection of FM 2502 and FM 2754 near Bellville in Austin County, Texas. Hoffman was riding a 2024 Harley-Davidson southwest on FM 2754 when he reportedly stopped at a posted stop sign but failed to yield the right of way to a 2021 Volkswagen Atlas crossing the intersection. The two vehicles collided, ejecting Hoffman from the motorcycle, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and a 17-year-old passenger in the Volkswagen were taken to Mid Coast Medical Center-Bellville for precautionary evaluation.
According to Click2Houston, the Texas Department of Public Safety is conducting the preliminary investigation and has not released a final determination on the cause of the crash. Montgomery County Sheriff Wesley Doolittle called Hoffman “a beloved member of our office,” noting the loss is especially painful because both of Hoffman’s parents also work for the agency — his father as a sergeant and his mother in the Central Jail Records Division. Hoffman had served with MCSO for two years at the time of his death. No arrests or citations have been announced as authorities continue to review the circumstances of the crash.
