A big-rig hauling concert equipment overturned on southbound Interstate 5 near Zamora in Yolo County early Thursday morning, August 27, 2026, killing the driver. The truck reportedly drifted onto the right shoulder before the driver attempted to steer back onto the roadway, lost control, and the rig rolled over, closing all southbound lanes. The driver, identified as 66-year-old Jarlath Parkinson of Jackson, South Carolina, died at the scene. The truck had been transporting equipment for rapper J. Cole’s scheduled concert at Sacramento’s Golden 1 Center, which was canceled following the crash.
According to CBS Sacramento, California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene south of County Road 95 and worked for hours to clear the wreckage and reopen the freeway. CHP Officer Rodney Fitzhugh told the Davis Enterprise that alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors, though fatigue or distraction have not been ruled out.
