A man was killed late Sunday night after being struck by two vehicles while crossing East Imperial Highway in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles. The pedestrian was reportedly crossing from the south curb toward the north side of the roadway near the Nickerson Gardens community when an eastbound, light-colored SUV allegedly struck him and continued without stopping. While he lay in the roadway, a second, westbound vehicle also struck him; that driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. He was pronounced dead at the location, and the man, believed to be homeless, has not been publicly identified.
According to MyNewsLA, the crash occurred around 10 p.m. in the 1,400 block of East Imperial Highway, just south of the Nickerson Gardens community. KTLA also reported that the driver of the first vehicle, described as a light-colored SUV, fled after striking the pedestrian, while the driver of the second vehicle remained at the scene. The Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division is investigating the hit-and-run and is asking anyone with information about the fleeing driver or vehicle to call (213) 479-6416. No arrests had been announced as of the following day.
