One person was killed and three others were injured early Tuesday morning in a violent chain-reaction crash on Rosecrans Avenue in Norwalk that authorities believe was caused by street racing. The crash happened shortly before 1 a.m. near Longworth Avenue, between Studebaker and Pioneer boulevards, when two vehicles traveling eastbound collided and rolled over multiple times. The impact sent debris and vehicles across the roadway, striking more than a dozen other cars, including several that were parked along the street. The driver of one of the rolling vehicles was ejected and died from his injuries.
According to ABC7 Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said some of the cars involved were racing at a high rate of speed just before the crash, and investigators believe at least 16 total vehicles were struck, including five moving vehicles and 11 parked cars. NBC Los Angeles reported that authorities are still working to determine how many vehicles were actively involved in the alleged race versus how many were bystander vehicles caught in the wreckage. No names have been released, and the investigation into the cause of the crash remains active and ongoing.
