A woman was killed early Friday morning after the Volkswagen Golf she was driving crashed into a traffic signal light pole near Hemet, California. The collision happened around 2 a.m. at the intersection of State Route 74 and Ramona Expressway in the unincorporated community of Valle Vista. First responders arrived to find the vehicle fully engulfed in flames and worked for several minutes to contain the fire before paramedics could reach the driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The California Highway Patrol has not released the cause of the crash and says it is still unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role.
According to MyNewsLA.com, Riverside County Fire Department crews found the sedan fully involved in fire when they arrived and contained the blaze in about eight minutes. The outlet reported that CHP investigators are asking anyone with information about the crash to call the Hemet-area CHP office at 951-846-5300. No other vehicles or pedestrians were reported involved in the collision. The investigation into what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway and strike the pole remains active.
