A 79-year-old motorcyclist from Claremont was killed Thursday morning after crashing on southbound Interstate 15 in the Cajon Pass, just north of the Cleghorn Road exit. According to the California Highway Patrol, the rider had merged onto southbound I-15 from State Route 138 and, for reasons still under investigation, veered into the right shoulder guardrail. The impact ejected the rider into the slow lane while the motorcycle continued several hundred feet before crashing into the center median wall. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Pain in the Pass, CHP shut down the right lane of southbound I-15 for nearly four hours while investigators worked the scene, backing up traffic through the pass and into Hesperia before the lane reopened around 11 a.m. San Bernardino County coroner’s officials identified the motorcyclist as Raymond Ramos. The CHP’s San Bernardino Area Office said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
