Authorities say her Nissan Altima had stalled in a center lane when she got out and stood in front of the car, and a Hyundai Accent then struck the rear of the disabled sedan. The impact pushed the Nissan into the woman before the vehicle caught fire and became fully engulfed. The driver of the Hyundai suffered minor injuries. The crash shut down multiple westbound lanes for hours while crews worked to clear the scene.

Woman Killed in Fiery Collision on 91 Freeway in Corona
California Vehicle Code 21703 prohibits drivers from following another vehicle more closely than is reasonable given the speed of traffic and roadway conditions. Rear-end collisions like the one that killed the victim in Corona often trace back to a driver following too closely or failing to react in time to a hazard, such as a disabled vehicle blocking a lane. When a violation of this statute contributes to a crash, the at-fault driver can be held liable for the resulting injuries and death.
Under California Code of Civil Procedure 377.60, the surviving family members of someone killed in a crash caused by another person’s negligence may bring a wrongful death claim. This law allows a spouse, children or other qualifying relatives to seek compensation for their loss, including funeral expenses and loss of financial support. Families considering this option pay nothing unless they win their case.
