A 26-year-old Abilene woman died Thursday evening after she was struck by a Union Pacific train while walking along the tracks in the 3400 block of South First Street, near Morris Street, in south Abilene. The Abilene Police Department said the collision was reported shortly before 6 p.m. after the train’s conductor called dispatch to report that the train had struck a person. The woman had been walking near the tracks with a male acquaintance, who was not injured. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and her name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
According to KTXS, the Abilene Police Department said the investigation into the crash remains active and no additional details about how the woman came to be on the tracks have been released. The outlet reported that the man walking with her was uninjured and that authorities were working to notify her family before releasing her identity. KTXS noted that no arrests or citations had been announced as of its report. The cause of the collision had not been determined at the time of publication.

26-year-old woman killed after being struck by train in Abilene
