A 22-year-old Longview man was killed late Tuesday, September 1, 2026, when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a law enforcement vehicle at the Loop 281 and U.S. Highway 80 interchange in Longview. The crash ended a pursuit that began with a Texas Department of Public Safety traffic stop, and Longview police have said their department did not start or assist in the chase. The rider was publicly identified as Joseph Daniel “Joey” Harrison, and he died at the scene. Longview officers blocked the roadway at the interchange so DPS investigators could work the wreck. State investigators say the case remains open.
The Longview News-Journal reported that Harrison died shortly before 11 p.m. when his motorcycle struck a police vehicle that had pulled out in front of him at the intersection. The newspaper reported that the owner of the motorcycle, who had been tracking the ride, said Harrison allegedly reached about 140 mph while fleeing and was traveling at roughly 106 mph at impact, with a phone-tracking app placing the crash at about 10:52 p.m. Sgt. Adam Albritton of the Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed to the News-Journal that Harrison died after colliding with a police vehicle, but said he did not have additional information, including where the pursuit started. Albritton said the crash report was not ready and that the investigation remained ongoing.
