A woman was killed early Thursday morning after her motorcycle struck the rear of an 18-wheeler on the westbound Katy Freeway near Mason Road in Houston, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. The crash happened just after midnight on September 3, 2026, and the woman was thrown from her motorcycle on impact. She was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured. The westbound freeway lanes were shut down for roughly two hours before crews cleared the scene ahead of the morning commute.
ABC13 Houston reported that deputies said the woman was wearing protective gear at the time of the crash, but it did not prevent her death, and that she did not show signs of intoxication. Click2Houston, KPRC 2’s news site, also covered the crash and reported that investigators, including Deputy Chagoya of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, suspect the woman failed to control her speed as she approached the truck. No charges have been announced, and the case remains under investigation by HCSO.
