Six people were hospitalized after a suspected drunk driver led Harris County sheriff’s deputies on a brief pursuit and slammed into a string of vehicles at the intersection of Cypress Rosehill Road late Thursday night. Deputies said they first spotted a truck traveling the wrong way near Mueschke Road and FM 2920 and tried to pull it over, but the driver refused to stop. The pursuit lasted less than two minutes before the pickup accelerated into the intersection and struck approximately six vehicles. All six people taken to area hospitals, including the driver, were reported in non-life-threatening condition.
ABC13 Houston reported that Harris County Sheriff’s Office Captain Steve Wilson identified the driver as a man in his 50s driving a white Dodge Ram 1500 who deputies allege was intoxicated at the time of the crash. Click2Houston (KPRC) reported that FM 2920 remained closed near the crash site while investigators processed the scene, and that Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said no deputies were hurt. Investigators were preparing to file DWI and evading-arrest charges against the driver as the investigation continued.

Six injured after wrong way crash involving possible drunk driver in northwest Harris County, HCSO says
Texas Penal Code § 49.04 makes it a crime to operate a motor vehicle in a public place while intoxicated by alcohol, drugs, or a combination of the two. A first DWI offense is typically a Class B misdemeanor, but charges escalate sharply when a wrong-way or high-speed crash causes injury, as investigators allege happened here. Beyond criminal penalties, a DWI finding can serve as powerful evidence of negligence in the injured victims’ civil claims against the driver.
Texas Civil Practice & Remedies Code § 33.001 applies the state’s modified comparative fault rule to crash injury claims, allowing injured victims to recover damages as long as they are found less than 51% responsible for the collision. Any percentage of fault assigned to the at-fault driver reduces that driver’s own recovery, but does not bar the other victims struck by the oncoming vehicle from pursuing full compensation. An attorney can help injured victims investigate the crash and pursue the responsible driver under this framework.
