A motorcyclist died Thursday afternoon after crashing on State Route 88 near Kirkwood Lake Road in Amador County. The California Highway Patrol said the rider was traveling eastbound when they failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway and continued up an embankment before being thrown from the motorcycle. Emergency crews, including CHP officers and medics, responded to the scene in the Sierra Nevada near the Kirkwood area. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
ABC10 reported that CHP has not yet released the identity of the motorcyclist, pending notification of next of kin. According to the outlet, investigators have not said whether speed, road conditions or a mechanical issue contributed to the rider losing control on the curve. No other vehicles were reported involved in the crash. Beverly Law extends its condolences to the family and reminds riders that mountain highways like SR-88 demand extra caution on tight curves.
