A motorcyclist was airlifted to a Tacoma hospital with serious injuries Tuesday afternoon after a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 12 near Oakville, Washington. The Washington State Patrol says the 25-year-old rider, from Oakesdale, had just turned onto eastbound US 12 from Second Street when she lost control, crossed the center line, and collided with a westbound pickup truck towing a trailer. The truck driver, a 50-year-old Oakville man, was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured. The highway was shut down while crews cleared the scene, with drivers detoured onto Second Street.
According to The Olympian, the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was flown to Tacoma General Hospital for treatment. The outlet reports that Washington State Patrol troopers have ruled out drugs and alcohol as factors, though the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation. The Daily World additionally reported that the collision occurred at milepost 35 on US 12, in Grays Harbor County just west of the Thurston County line.
