A 19-year-old man was killed and another 19-year-old was seriously injured early Sunday, September 20, 2026, when their car crashed on the Yerba Buena Road on-ramp to northbound Highway 101 in San Jose, California. The vehicle reportedly left the roadway, went down an embankment and overturned, ejecting the passenger. Emergency crews shut down both lanes of the on-ramp while they worked the scene, reopening it a few hours later. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
According to NBC Bay Area, California Highway Patrol officers said the driver of a 2013 Ford Fusion lost control of the vehicle while traveling northbound, and the passenger, a 19-year-old from Fairfield, died from his injuries after being ejected. The driver, a 19-year-old man from San Mateo, was taken to a hospital with major injuries, the outlet reported. CHP has not yet said whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash. Neither victim’s name has been officially released.
