A 73-year-old woman was killed Thursday morning after she was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Kelly Street and Bayview Avenue in Hayward, California. The collision was reported to police at approximately 10:58 a.m. Emergency crews transported the woman to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased. The 48-year-old male driver, a Hayward resident, remained at the scene and cooperated with responding officers. Investigators say drugs and alcohol are not believed to have been factors in the crash.
According to KRON4, the driver — a 48-year-old Hayward resident — stayed at the scene and spoke with officers, who do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. KRON4 reported that the collision is Hayward’s fifth fatal crash of 2026. The victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of her family, and the Hayward Police Department’s Traffic Bureau is continuing to investigate. Investigators have not said whether the pedestrian was in a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash.
