Four Everett police officers and a Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy were hospitalized with injuries early Thursday, September 10, 2026, after a man driving a stolen semitruck allegedly rammed multiple patrol cars during a police pursuit in Everett, Washington. The chase began around 6:21 a.m. after an employee reported the truck stolen from a Safeway on Broadway, and deputies followed it onto southbound Interstate 5 before it exited near the 112th Street Park and Ride into the Silver Lake neighborhood. Officers attempting to stop the truck near Silver Lake Road and 118th Place Southeast were allegedly struck as the driver tried to flee, with one officer reportedly hit while still seated inside his patrol vehicle. The truck eventually came to a stop in the 1100 block of Andrew Sater Road, where the suspect was taken into custody.

According to The Daily Herald, all four injured Everett officers and the sheriff’s deputy sustained only minor injuries, and the suspect, a man in his 30s, was also taken to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett for evaluation as a precaution. Everett Police Chief Robert Goetz praised the officers’ “remarkable bravery and professionalism throughout this dangerous situation,” the outlet reported. KOMO News reported that the suspect remains in custody and is expected to face multiple charges, including assault, attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle, and motor vehicle theft. The Everett Police Department says the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

What the Law Says

RCW 46.61.024 makes it a felony to willfully fail to stop for a pursuing police vehicle after being given a visual or audible signal, while driving in a manner that shows a reckless disregard for the safety of others. When a fleeing driver allegedly causes a collision that injures officers or bystanders, as happened here, this statute supports both criminal charges and a civil injury claim against the driver.

Washington follows pure comparative fault under RCW 4.22, meaning an injured person’s recovery is reduced by their own percentage of fault rather than barred outright. In a case like this one, fault would rest primarily with the driver who allegedly rammed patrol vehicles while trying to escape.

This summary is general information, not legal advice. Every case depends on its specific facts.
