22-Year-Old Motorcyclist Killed in I-35 Crash in New Braunfels, Texas
A 22-year-old New Braunfels man was killed late Wednesday night when he was thrown from his motorcycle on Interstate 35 South and then struck by multiple vehicles. The crash was reported around 10:30 p.m. in the 2400 block of I-35 South, near the Schmidt Avenue overpass. New Braunfels police and fire crews responded and found that the rider, who was wearing a helmet, had already been struck by several passing vehicles after going down. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The southbound main lanes of I-35 were shut down for roughly five and a half hours while officers investigated.
According to the Herald-Zeitung, the New Braunfels Police Department’s Traffic Unit is continuing to investigate the crash, and officials say no criminal charges are expected at this time. The city said the victim’s family has been notified, though his name has not been publicly released by authorities. KSAT also reported on the crash, citing a New Braunfels city spokesperson who confirmed the same details. The exact sequence that led the motorcyclist to be thrown from his bike, and how many vehicles struck him afterward, remains under investigation.
