Fatal 18-Wheeler Crash Closes I-635 Lanes in Mesquite, Texas
A driver was killed early Wednesday morning after a passenger vehicle slammed into the back of a semi-truck on northbound Interstate 635 near the Gross Road exit in Mesquite, Texas. The crash happened around 3:20 a.m. as the 18-wheeler had slowed for traffic ahead. The truck driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with officers, according to police. All but one northbound lane, along with the Gross Road exit, were shut down for hours while investigators worked the scene.
According to NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth, the Mesquite Police Department said the circumstances surrounding the crash remain unclear and its Traffic Unit is continuing to investigate. FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth reported that officers urged drivers to slow down, watch for emergency personnel, and consider alternate routes as delays stacked up during the investigation. The identity of the driver who died had not been released as of the reports. No charges have been announced as the investigation continues.
