A Sacramento County man was sentenced to 188 years to life in prison after a drunk-driving crash on River Road, just south of the Freeport Bridge, killed all five passengers riding with him. Authorities say Cameron Garcia had been drinking before he lost control of his Cadillac Escalade on a curve, went down an embankment, and struck a tree at roughly 101 mph. All five passengers were ejected and died at the scene; Garcia himself was injured. In the chaos after the crash, he allegedly pushed a woman from her car and stole it, leading law enforcement on a pursuit into Elk Grove before he was taken into custody.
According to CBS Sacramento, Garcia’s blood-alcohol level tested at 0.11% roughly 90 minutes after the crash, and he also tested positive for active marijuana use. The outlet reported that a jury convicted Garcia of five counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and carjacking, and that he was sentenced on September 8, 2026, more than three years after the February 2023 crash. The five victims — Monte Nunn, 29; Faith Samuel, 18; Izabelle Salaz-Stephens, 19; Curvontay Swygert, 16; and Aahliya Garcia, 17 — were named by CBS Sacramento. The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office also confirmed the conviction and sentence.
