A car crash outside Biggs in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 29, 2026, left a 6-year-old girl, a Paradise police sergeant and a 9-year-old boy needing medical treatment. According to the Butte County District Attorney’s Office, an Oroville woman allegedly ran a stop sign on Rio Bonito Road and struck the driver’s side of a fully marked Paradise Police patrol vehicle traveling on State Route 99. Both vehicles were reportedly moving at highway speeds when they collided around 12:15 a.m. The girl underwent surgery for a severely broken leg, and the responding officer, Sgt. John Alvies, sustained life-threatening injuries requiring five separate surgeries.
KRCR reported that the driver, identified as Amie Elyse Kucera, 37, of Oroville, has been charged with felony child abuse and driving under the influence. A blood draw taken about three hours after the crash allegedly showed her blood alcohol concentration at .14%, according to the Butte County District Attorney’s Office. KRCR reported that Kucera’s two children were found unsecured inside the SUV, and both are now in the care of Butte County Child Services and have been placed with family members. Kucera is scheduled to return to Butte County Superior Court on September 9, KRCR reported.
