Two drivers were flown from the scene of a violent crash between a Robertson’s double-tanker semi-truck and a BMW SUV on State Route 18 near Meridian Road in Lucerne Valley, according to Victor Valley News. The crash was reported at about 10:42 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, and initial California Highway Patrol logs described it as a head-on traffic collision. The semi sustained extensive damage, with its cab overturned and one tanker trailer on its side, and CHP logs reported debris blocking both lanes.
As reported by Victor Valley News, firefighters worked to extricate the semi driver from the overturned cab; by 11:20 a.m. CHP logs indicated the driver had been freed and was able to walk from the truck to a fire engine while crews waited for an air ambulance. The driver of the BMW was airlifted to a hospital that was not identified, and a second air ambulance was requested for the semi driver. Crews also called for a sweeper to clear powder cement spilled at the scene, with CHP logs noting the cleanup was larger than a tow truck could handle. Both lanes of Highway 18 were closed as of 11:28 a.m. for an unknown duration. No arrest, citation or charge has been reported and the cause remains under investigation.

Highway 18 Closed After Robertson’s Double-Tanker And BMW SUV Crash In Lucerne Valley; Two Drivers Airlifted
California Vehicle Code § 21650 requires every vehicle to be driven on the right half of the roadway. When a tractor-trailer ends up in the opposing lane, that failure can support both a traffic violation and a civil negligence claim. Whether that happened here has not been determined — CHP has not released a cause and no citation has been reported.
California Civil Code § 1714 makes everyone responsible for injuries caused by their lack of ordinary care. In a commercial-truck case that duty reaches past the driver to the trucking company, which can be liable for the driver’s negligence on the job and for its own hiring, training, maintenance and dispatch decisions. Federal inspection and hours-of-service records are often the evidence that settles those questions, and they can be overwritten within months — which is why a preservation letter goes out early.
