A 62-year-old man using a wheelchair was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver at Vermont Avenue and West 83rd Street in South Los Angeles on Thursday night, August 13, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. As reported by CBS Los Angeles, the man was crossing in a marked crosswalk around 10:40 p.m. when a vehicle traveling north on Vermont Avenue hit him and the driver fled without stopping to help.
The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead; his name has not yet been publicly released. As reported by the Santa Monica Mirror, a reward of up to $50,000 is available through the City of Los Angeles Hit-and-Run Reward Program for information leading to the identification, apprehension and conviction of the driver. LAPD South Traffic Division investigators are handling the case, and no description of the suspect vehicle has been released. Anyone with information is urged to contact the LAPD.
