The California Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 3:07 a.m. at an intersection controlled by stop signs in all directions. The driver of the car was the only occupant and was pronounced dead at the scene. The 40-year-old truck driver was not reported injured.
According to Bakersfield Now, a preliminary CHP investigation found the Mercedes was traveling north on Old River Road while a 2018 Freightliner pulling a single trailer was westbound on Bear Mountain Boulevard. CHP says the car continued into the intersection and struck the trailer, and the reason is still under investigation. Investigators have not said whether alcohol, drugs or speed played a role. Anyone with information is asked to call the CHP Bakersfield Area Office at (661) 396-6600.

CHP: Bakersfield man killed after running stop sign into semi-truck trailer
California Vehicle Code 22450 requires drivers to stop at the limit line, or before entering the crosswalk or intersection, at a stop sign. In crashes at stop-controlled intersections, who stopped and who entered first can be central to determining fault. Evidence such as vehicle data, video and witness accounts can help clarify what happened.
California Code of Civil Procedure 377.60 identifies who may bring a wrongful death claim, including certain surviving family members and others who depended on the person who died. Deadlines apply to these claims, so families often seek guidance early. Beverly Law offers free consultations and charges no fee unless we win.
